Meghan Clark selected for Microsoft Graduate Women’s Scholarship

CSE graduate student Meghan Clark has been selected to receive a Microsoft Graduate Women’s Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. This year, Microsoft has awarded only 10 such scholarships to top Ph.D. students in the US and Canada who represent a selection of the best and the brightest in their fields.

Meghan is a second year Ph.D. candidate and works with Prof. Prabal Dutta. Her research interests lie in the areas of embedded systems, ubiquitous computing, and security.

Meghan intends to explore the potential for embedded systems to enable major advancements in quality of life and environmental interactions. In particular, she sees opportunities for impact in remote health and science in developing regions, responsive and energy-efficient buildings, and networks that are quick and cheap to deploy in areas with limited Internet connectivity. Additionally, as sensor-based applications become more and more integrated with our lives, she would like to investigate ways of providing useful sensor-based services while preserving privacy.
