Joe Greathouse Wins Best Student Presentation Award at CGO 2011 Conference

CSE Ph.D. student Joe Greathouse won the Best Student Presentation Award at the 2011 International Symposium on Code Generation and Optimization (CGO 2011), which took place April 2-6, 2011 in Chamonix, France.

Greathouse won the award for his presentation of the paper: “Highly Scalable Distributed Dataflow Analysis,” by Joe Greathouse, Chelsea LeBlanc, Valeria Bertacco and Todd Austin. The paper details a novel technology that allows heavyweight security vulnerability analyses to be pushed out into the field, where users run sampled analyses with very low overhead. The approach has great potential to find security bugs before attackers.

Joe works with Prof. Todd Austin in the ACAL laboratory, where he researches computer architecture mechanisms that allow developers to dynamically analyze software to find errors and security vulnerabilities with little runtime overhead.
